this is rage

©

this is rage
boiling since first memory
creeping from sub to consciousness
seeping through unclogged pores
leaking like spores
polluting peace like so many gunshots fired

containing rage
is like trying to hold water in a fist

stepping off an edge

©

one step
forward or back
a knack for rigid tracking
bridges lacking handrails
windy sails full of
stale air
deep stare into bedlam
a mind wracked
fracking
digging
gassing
boat sinking
choppy waters
drinking buckets of drama
sculpting trauma from old bones
hanging on a ledge
of only if
dreaming a burning bridge
stepping off an edge

explosions

celebrating wars in darkness of night
detonation
streams of light
gunshots hidden under rip of
fires cracking
static noise making fright
empires rising
explosions surprising urban villagers
breaking silence
celebrating the menace that is war

celebrating capitalist winners
while veterans moan in alleys

capitalist swimmers drinking overpriced wines
war sinners professing love for
mythological gods
confessing lost ideas

the myth of profits
leering from lofty heights

profiteering war criminals
ex-presidents
guards with guns
dead presidents
guards with guns
dancing on graves
dancing in tombs
of dead veterans
stomping on hearts of mothers of dismantled soldiers
dispersed by explosions
parts immersed in dust
pouring like liquid over flesh and bone

explosions rocking hearts and memories
of every traumatized soldier
post traumatic stress disability
shell shocked mothers of soldiers
mothers of children lost to street wars
fathers of every sacrificed son and daughter
wincing at every blast

drops of water salted with grief
discreetly wet the lashes of celebrants
grand parents of great warriors

the last and final shebang
followed by gunfire
celebrating the celebration with more
sounds of violence

sounds of war

human rights

©

human rights are being trampled all over the world
to feed the greed
gasoline poured on open wounds
plant a seed
a sword transformed to scythe fills the need
infants looking on
drawn to sounds poured over hills and rocks
children watching horror in back yards
tiny shards of hope devoured by fear
bleeding stomach . each shard a pointed spear
tearing through vessels
one nestles into the nerve of the brain
increasing strain of muscle
pain sears through a human so another human can have extra rights

thunder

©

momentary torrential downpour
underscore deep rumbling
humbling rivers swell
trees who fell housing survivors
reviving dreams drowned
unbound rhythms
unwinding infernal systems
diurnal awakening
staking claim
on newly washed conscience
aim pointed
anointed icons questioned
fallen feeders broken leaders
cleaned while gleaned riches
buy chances
gestation enhances freedom
voters in trances wake and thunder

telephonic

©

telephonic gathering
supersonic blathering
word in edgewise
listen think verbalize
canned voice
language choice
time space continuum
add the sum
drop a line
mutter with a clear design
telephonic clarity
communicate hilarity

heed the warnings

we’ve got war on the poor . limit on the debt
keep strangling your sister to find out what you get
people coming to the street . take your white hoods down
gonna bring a new message to the folks uptown
bring some lunch, lot’s of water . come ready to stay
put some love in your anger . singing day after day
we shall all overcome this maniacal greed
we are coming together . plant and nurture the seed
of hope surely growing out from under blacktop
when concrete is shattered and the autos all stop
when silence is roaring, casting judgement on us
there won’t be any wonder . we emerge from the dust
of desire, self loathing . crawl away from debris
scrape hate from our eyes so we finely can see
deep lies and deception . elected in force
we proclaim us the winners of an ugly divorce
from this abusive landowner, self-proclaimed boss
of my future i celebrate . then mourn the loss
of my comrades . we peer through the wreckage of shame
we peer through decades for someone to blame
as we look in the mirror, the culprit stares back
now we know we have faltered . it’s time to retrack
put ourselves on a new path . time to shift gears
make music and lyrics so everyone hears
we all gather near water . remember our pain
pick ourselves up from grieving . there’s nothing to gain
from our terrible history but warnings of doom
we can look for tomorrow or wallow in gloom
heed the warnings . we turn ourselves back to the sun
now we know our beginning has almost begun
heed the warnings . we turn ourselves back to the sun
now we know our beginning has only begun

heed the warnings . we turn ourselves back to the sun
now we know our beginning has finally begun

measured time

©

saving the daylight
minimize fright
while tossing off biorhythms
beams of early morning go back to sleep
shifting consciousness
profit margin rules the clock
makes a mockery of time
toe the line of rigid measured
parcels of moments on end
saving tomorrow
our future’s not to spend another dime
before we get there
measured time

rage

©

rage
the great equalizer
from love it emerges, swerves, charges
ducks and shimmies
enlarges the heart
a page from the book of art
it paints itself huge in the eyes of true enemies
shining light on pain
rage refuses to back down
making it’s own path through a rain of tears
rage pulls near to it’s target with justified screaming
internal beaming lights drown out fear
when rage enters a room
the air shimmers with glee
while naysayers flee the power of this
naked lover of truth
rage dispels myths
repels lies
defeats shadowy deals
lays to waste polite banter
brings hurt to it’s knees
rage sees itself as the keys
knows the deep combination of love and battle
rage sees truth in the mirror

spiders

you might think that we can take things in stride
walkin’ through the day, our heads full of pride
but this life ain’t no easy train ride
there’s work to be done
just look inside
the path that we walk, like the one in my brain
gets too hard and rocky without enough rain
your thoughts get tangled, so you cut off your mane
let the river run through you
clean out your drain
when we can feel like a fresh spring instead of a well
the residue has found a new place to dwell
been chased through the system, kicked out with a yell
the soul’s on a mission
under a spell
precision . contraction . abbreviate
leave ourselves time to experience our fate
or just enough passion to begin to create
time’s runnin’ out
might be too late
better not wait
before you know it somebody else floats off the seam
leaving wishes and memories like out of a dream
the spirit departs with a low muffled scream
it might hover
or shine like a beam
if we follow each light, every sparkle and flare
peek around corners, look in if we dare
keep our senses in focus, no brain damage stare
don’t let the spiders
camp in your hair
we might witness a change in our future or past
rearrange data, explain things at last
you can’t go dancing in a full body cast
but you can stumble from thinkin’
don’t go too fast
